Disneyland 2011 Halloween Trip Report

Day 4

Tuesday, November 1st

After a leisurely morning of sleeping in we had quick breakfast in our hotel room & then walked to Magic Kingdom park.  Once we got to the Magic Kingdom park we found Chip and Dale at the start of Main Street.  We got to meet Chip and Dale and get their autographs and pose for some pictures.  These guys are quite a crack up.  Love these little chipmunks!

We boarded the monorail in Tomorrowland for a quick ride.  We asked to sit in the very front of the monorail & they allowed us to do it.  In Disney World they no longer allow anyone in the nose cone of the monorail.  It was a fun ride and we had the entire nose part of the monorail alone for just our family.  The monorail in Disneyland is almost more of an attraction than a form of transportation like it is in Disney World.  This monorail only has stops in Tomorrowland and Downtown Disney so we rode in a complete circle and got off again in Tomorrowland.

We decided to ride Matterhorn Mountain one more time and then decide where to eat lunch.  For lunch we chose to eat at Pacific Wharf Cafe in California Adventure.  We had read good reviews on the place and decided to try it out.  Their bread bowl salads were amazing and plenty of food to fill us up.  The kids ordered kids meals and I will warn that they kids meals are extremely small.  They got Mac and Cheese and the cups it came in were very, very small.  We had to share our adult meals with the kids.  So if you have been to Disney World and are an adult with a small appetite, don't plan to fill up on a kids meal in this park because you will leave hungry.  We did enjoy the outdoor seating on the dock along the water.  The weather was pleasant and we watched the divers prepare for the World of Color show along with the water fowl as we ate.  You can find a full lunch menu for the Pacific Wharf Cafe HERE

We spent the remainder of the day touring in California Adventure.  We decided to try Disney Animation after lunch.  Disney Animation is a large auditorium, classroom that opens it's doors on a schedule to allow people into the class.  At the front there is a stage where an instructor sits and teaches the audience how to draw a Disney character.  Each person is given a clipboard with a piece of paper and pencil.  We greatly enjoyed learning how to draw Dale.  Even the kids were able to follow along with the instructor and draw a good picture of Dale.  This was a great souvenir from our trip and best of all it was FREE.

In the Disney Animation building there are also other activities to do and things to see while you wait for your turn in the classroom.  One of the things that we got a thrill out of seeing is the Zoetrope.  If you don't know what a Zoetrope is, then watch this video that we took and learn all about it.  This was truly amazing to see in person.  It really does play tricks on your eyes.

We met up with Sully from Monsters Inc.  He was near the Monsters Inc ride.  As we were walking through Hollywood Pictures Backlot we noticed that they were blocking off the street for something so we decided to stick around and see what it was all about.  It turned out that the Incredibles were coming to find some new crime fighting recruits.  Our kids were chosen to participate and be recruited and it was a fun little show on the street.  You can watch our video below.

We deiced to use the preferred seating tickets to get preferred seating to the Aladdin show in California Adventure.  We did show up early & there was still a line waiting to get in that section.  We did get good seats and we enjoyed the show.  It is very similar to the Aladdin show that is now onboard the Disney Fantasy Cruise ship.  This show would be a nice place to cool off on a hot summer day.

At the end of the night we stood in the back of the crowd at the World of Color show.  We did this with our youngest on our shoulders because he fell asleep during the previous show.  I will say that in order to get a good viewing spot at this show you should plan to get a fastpass to it at the beginning of the day.  These fastpasses can be obtained at the Grizzley River run fastpass distribution spot until the fastpasses are all given out.  They only give a certain umber of fastpasses to each show so be sure to get yours before they are gone.

After the World of Color show we returned to our hotel for a late dinner.  We got discounted food at Millie's Restaurant next door to our hotel.  They boxed it up for us to take back to our room to relax and enjoy.  We thought that the food was great and there sure was a lot of it.  Nobody went to bed hungry that night.
